JAMMU: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) in a meeting held at village Mana of Tehsil Suchetgarh, urged all political parties particularly BJP and Congress to stress upon Delimitation Commission, visiting Jammu on July 8-9, 2021, to create two constituencies exclusively for DPs of 1947 from PoK, while demarcating boundaries of 90 Assembly constituencies in UT of J&K.
Speaking on the occasion, President Gurdev Singh along with Bhagwan Singh, Puran Singh, Suram Singh Chib, Madan Lal Lambardar and Baldev Raj Panch requested BJP and Congress to rise above party lines and come forward for playing a pivotal role in convincing the Commission to reserve two seats for DPs in view their approaching 70 per cent concentration in Gandhi Nagar, R S Pura and Suchetgarh constituencies.
Emphasizing upon the need for reserving two separate constituencies for DPs, Gurdev Singh said that they have been victimized and were deprived of their legitimate rehabilitation by successive Governments of erstwhile J&K and Center. “The legitimate rehabilitation issues of DPs were ignored and denied for political considerations due to which they lagged behind economically, socially, educationally and politically. Their wards were not provided any kind of reservation/concession in Govt. services and technical institutions despite repeated requests and reminders,” said Gurdev, adding that in order to save them from further victimization and discrimination, there is a dire need to grant them due representation in the legislature.
