Sarvanad Kaul Premi-the martyr

Respected Editor,
Sarvanand Kaul Premi was a famous Kashmiri poet, journalist, research scholar, Gandhian, social reformer and independence activist, living in village of Sof-Shali, near Kokarnag tourist area in Anantnag District of Kashmir. He along with his young married son Verinder (27) was kidnapped and executed by Islamic assailants in 1990. The assassination happened during rise of terrorism in Kashmir. His poetry was primarily focused on common suffering of the Kashmiri people. His early work was written in Hindi and Urdu, but later he began writing in Kashmiri as well, on advice of Master Zinda Koul, a renowned poet, and a contemporary. He was often in company of other poets like Zinda Koul and Ghulam Ahmed Mehjoor. It was Mehjoor, the great poet of Kashmir, who gave him the name ‘Premi’ (meaning Lover), because his poetry was full of love for Kashmir. With his martyrdom, Kashmir lost a legend and a veteran philosopher and Kashmiri Pandits lost a luminous member, the loss of which can never be fulfilled. The tyrannical pathos of Islamic Jihad snatched away a memorable spiritual soul of Kashmir from us, the Pandits of Kashmir.
This letter has a relevance and reference to the judgment of State Human Rights Commission on February 22, 2012, on a plea preferred by his grieved family members including his wife for redressal of some of vital issues related to his and his young son’s brutal killing, where in the State Human Rights Commission was kind enough to grant his family members a relief of sorts in different issues vital to left over family of his. For shortage of space, all such epitomes of this judgment cannot be cited here, but this is a fact that the judgment remained a blank paper sheet till date at hands of the Government and the bureaucracy, eating the dust of sorts. It is not known if the said judgment is existing anywhere on record with the government. The situation is still in that quandary. Nobody in the Government and the present bureaucratic set up is ready or bothered to ensure at least the implementation of the Judgment of a scared court, which is destined and designated to come to the rescue of human rights of the oppressed and depressed. The Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, is most humbly requested through the columns of this paper to kindly direct the concerned to immediately locate and implement the judgment of SHRC, in letter & spirit, which is eating dust in the bureaucratic power corridors of J&K for more than a decade now, so that aggrieved family of martyr Sarvanad Kaul Premi receive justice as prayed by them before State Human Rights Commission. It will also mean a tribute to the martyrdom of Sarvanand Kaul Premi and his young son, who were martyred by the terrorists for a simple fault of their being nationalists and Indians.
