Beijing, Feb 16: India’s challenge at the Beijing Winter Olympics ended on Wednesday as Alpine skier Mohd Arif Khan veered off course in the final stretch to end with a DNF (Did Not Finish) in Slalom first run. A DNF in run 1 means the athlete can not participate in the second run. In the Giant Slalom event on Sunday, Arif finished 46th with a cumulative time of 2:47.24 after second run. He was ranked 53rd in the Giant Slalom’s first run.
The 31-year-old skier from Jammu and Kashmir was the lone Indian representing the country in Beijing’s Winter Olympics.
Besides, he is also the first Indian qualified for two events — Giant Slalom and Slalom — of the same edition.
Only 52 out of 87 participants were able to finish the run. Athletes who finished the first run will be progressed to the medal race. (UNI)
