Conservation is key to a healthy society

Dr Meghna Dhar
Albert Einstein has aptly said, “Look Deep into Nature, and Then You will Understand Everything Better”. World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated internationally on July 28 of every year around the world. World Nature Conservation Day 2020 recognizes that a healthy environment is a key to a healthy and sustainable society .It is a foundation for a stable and productive society and to ensure the well-being of present and future generations, we all must participate to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage our natural resources. On this World Nature Conservation Day, people should put an effort to protect the earth and conserve the natural resources.
The history and origin of the World Nature Conservation Day is unknown but the main aim of celebrating it on 28 July is to come together and celebrate this day is to protect, maintain and conserve the natural resources and habitats. Conservation of nature is the wise management and utilization of natural resources. As we know that due to the depletion of natural resources and the imbalance in the ecosystem, natural imbalance, we are facing several problems like global warming, various diseases, natural disasters, increased temperature etc. Therefore, for the next generation it is necessary to preserve it. So the only solution to overcome these problems is to preserve the natural resources by creating awareness among people all over the world to understand the importance of saving natural resources and encouraging people to protect the environment in an effective manner for present as well as future generations.

World Nature Conservation Day

Conservation consists of protecting, maintaining, controlling or restoring habitats and natural resources such as forests and water. This can be achieved by biodiversity conservation and the protection of many species and habitats that are vulnerable due to human activities. It is necessary to create a healthy environment to safeguard the present and future generation. There are several threats to nature like deforestation, illegal wildlife trade, pollution, using plastics, chemicals etc. Earth has provided basic necessity to live like water, air, soil, minerals, trees, animals, food etc. Industrial development and several other factors are also responsible for the depletion of nature. Whatever we do it affects on the globe because world is one and somehow linked together. So, we should keep nature clean and healthy
Steps to Conserve Natural Resources: Due to the fact that natural resources are limited, and the formation takes millions of years, the human exploits them for their endless consumption and comfort. Human beings have become a threat to natural resources as the human interference in natural resources is rising day after day. So, it’s very important to save the resources and some of the steps to conserve the nature are listed below:
Planting Trees: Planting trees for the environment is good as they are renewable, biodegradable and recyclable. Planting more trees and vegetation to maintain the ecosystem and to prevent soil erosion, proper use of fuel resources and passing a law and abiding by it. Grow vegetation in catchment areas.
Conservation of Water: Conservation of water means careful and economical use of water. We should conserve water as it is a precious natural resource. Install water treatment plants and rainwater harvesting. Use the water resources in a proper way and reuse the kitchen water for watering the gardens.
Reduce the Use of Electricity: If we reduce energy consumption then power plants will need to produce less electricity and thus reducing the number of fossil fuels burned every day. By using alternative energy sources such as solar and wind energy, reducing the overconsumption of water and electricity.
Recycling of Wastes: The main thing of conservation is reuse, recycle, and restore. Try to use and buy reusable and biodegradable products as much as possible. Recycle everything if it is possible. Ensure the recycling of wastes; try to minimize the use of cars for shorter distance.
Use Less Paper: We must try to use less paper as far as it is possible, this will reduce cutting of trees. The benefit of reducing paper consumption is saving the world
Try to Avoid Using Plastic Materials and Other Steps: Use cloth bag instead of plastic bags and reduce pollution. As we know that batteries are dangerous for environment so, it is better to use rechargeable batteries. Smoking is injurious to health and sometime it is seen that people after smoking don’t throw cigarette in the dustbin but on the ground directly which is just a pure littering. We should understand the importance and value of our natural resources.
Spread Awareness: Everyone can participate and conserve nature which is a beautiful gift to us. The day is celebrated by conducting, seminars and events by various organizations on awareness of use of recyclable, reusable and restorable products in day-to-day life. Planting trees and preserving them .Form a group and educate the people in all areas and take some conservation activities. Use social media and share the celebrations of World Nature Conservation Day.
Conclusion: Thus, World Nature Conservation Day 2020 recognizes that a healthy environment is key to a healthy and sustainable society. On this World Nature Conservation Day, people should put an effort to protect the earth and conserve the natural resources. The Earth has supplied a limited amount of properties that we all rely upon each day like water, air, soil and trees. Protecting wildlife and supporting biodiversity are the main reasons for nature conservation. It is important to protect nature and to create a healthy environment for present and future generations. Theodore Roosevelt has aptly said “Conservation is a great moral issue, for it involves the patriotic duty of insuring the safety and continuance of the nation.” On this World Nature Conservation Day, let us spread the message about the significance of conservation of natural resources and encourage the people about the practices of protecting nature resources with friends and family.
