Impressive Shoba Yatra taken out on eve of Krishna Janamashtami

JAMMU, Aug 18: An impressive Shoba Yatra was taken out here today on the eve of Shri Krishna Janamashtami after a gap of two years.
The Shoba Yatra started from Geeta Bhawan with Pujan of Ladoo Gopal. A grand function was organised on the occasion by Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SDS). Later taking the route of Shalamar, Indira Chowk and Hari Market, the Shoba Yatra reached the Raghunath Bazar where from the chariot of Lord Krishna led the Shoba Yatra after traditional Puja of the Rath and Ladoo Gopal by the devotees.
Thousands of people enroute greeted the Shoba Yatra, paid obeisance to Lord Krishna and showered flowers on it. The devotees were standing in beelines on both sides all the way where from Shoba Yatra passed. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the devotees as the Shoba Yatra was taken out after a gap of two years due to COVID-19 pandemic. During the year 2020 and 2021, the yatra was not allowed due to COVID.
The people enroute were waiting for long time to have the darshan, of Lord Krishna whose Sawari was taken out on a specially decorated rath. The devotees attired in colorful costumes and Kesri turbans were reciting Bhajan Kirtan and religious hymns in the praise of Lord Krishna enroute. Click here to watch video
The various Bazar Associations had fully decorated their markets to greet and welcome the Shoba Yatra by installing banners and erecting welcome gates. They also served cold drinks, fruit and other eatables to the devotees participating in the Shoba Yatra. There was such a rush that people were seen waiting on roof tops of shops and residential building in Old City to have a glimpse of the Lord Krishna’s chariot .
Dozens of attractive Jhankis depicting the different aspects of Lord Krishna’s life from his birth to Mahabharata formed the part of Shoba Yatra. A Jhanki of Ved Mandir students and their Acharyas which also formed the part of Shoba Yatra were reciting shalokas from Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta, Ramayana and Vedas enroute. Besides, the Jhankis of ISKCON from Dream City Muthi, Braham Kumaris and other religious and social organizations including KP Sabha, Ambphalla, Purani Mandi Temple etc were also participating in the Shoba Yatra.
The holy Rath Pujan was performed by devotees at 20 to 25 places enroute till the culmination of Yatra at Raghunath Mandir late in the evening. The members of Muslim community at Rajinder Bazar gave a rousing reception to Shoba yatra and served water and cold drinks to devotees participating in it.
From Raghunath Bazar, the Shoba Yatra passed via Residency Road, Rajinder Bazar, Kanak Mandi, City Chowk, Purani Mandi, Link Road, Jain Bazar, Chowk Chabutra, Pacca Danga, Moti Bazar, back to Purani Mandi and Raghunath Bazar where it culminated.
Earlier at Geeta Bhawan a grand function was held in which Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest and it was presided over by Dr Gautam Mengi, Sangchalak RSS. The president Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Parshotam Didichi and its general secretary, Prabhat Singh besides the leaders of various political parties, social and trade organisations were also present.
The office bearers of Dharmarth Trust joined the Shoba Yatra during the traditional Pujan of the chariot and Lord Krishna at Raghunath Bazar.
