National Senior Citizens Day observed in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: To mark the National Senior Citizens Day to inculcate sense of responsibility in young generation towards their elders, the District Social Welfare Office in collaboration with District Administration Srinagar on Sunday organized series of activities here at Zila Sanik Bawan and Tehsil Social Welfare Office Miskeen Bagh.
The programmes were held on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad to honor senior citizens who have made positive contributions in their communities and to bring awareness of social, health and economic issues that affect senior citizens. During the programmes, the Health Department organized medical camps where free health checkups and medicine was provided to the senior citizens of the District.
The senior citizens were also taken out for a picnic to Mughal Gardens where they spent good time together and interacting with each other and after had lunch there. Cultural programme/songs were also organised for them.
While awareness related to various Government sponsored welfare schemes was also part of the events. Meanwhile a helpline number (Elderline,14567) available for senior citizens was shared.
PULWAMA: Social Welfare Department Pulwama celebrated National Senior Citizens Day. The District Social Welfare Office Pulwama today organised a picnic to the revered shrine of Wahab Sahab at Shar Shali Pampore for the senior citizens.
In the technology driven era where most time gets spent on-screen and the elderly feel neglected, the picnic was an opportunity for the elderly to spend quality time by marking their presence at the spiritual site.
They interacted with each other and were also greeted by live musical performance on the lyrics of the saint-poet.
The officials of the department took the opportunity to spread awareness about various welfare schemes and helpline numbers operated by the govt for the senior citizens.
The elderly belonging to different areas of district Pulwama were over enthusiastic for their participation and highly appreciated the initiative of the department and also expressed their desire for more such programs in future.
