Cycling expedition organised by Western Command

JAMMU, Aug 27: A 26 members’ team of Western Command was flagged off by Major General GS Kahlon, Officiating Chief of Staff, Western Command to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the Command.
The team set off on a cycling expedition on the route Chandimandir -Jalandhar-Pathankot -Yol Cantonment- Mamun-Jammu-Amritsar-Ferozpur -Ludhiana -Patiala-Kunjpura-New Delhi-Meerut-Ambala and back to Chandimandir on September 13.
The team of cyclists is led by Major Rakesh Kumar, an experienced cyclist. The cyclists will face the daunting task of covering 1800 kilometres in 18 days and passing through seven States and will culminate at Chandimandir to commemorate a befitting tribute to the veterans and Veer Naris for their sacrifice towards Nation on its 75 years of Independence.
The expedition team will visit remote areas enroute, interact with local people and spread awareness about different schemes launched by Indian Army for the welfare of Ex-servicemen, war veterans, war widows and veer naris. In addition the youth of these areas will be motivated to join the Indian Armed Forces.
The expedition will pedal its way through Punjab before entering Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
The expedition team will be flagged in’ at Chandimandir by Lt Gen Nav K Khanduri, GOC-in-C Western Command.
