J&K all set to host 48th Junior National Volleyball Championship from Nov 14

JAMMU: The Volleyball Association of J&K (VAJK), in support with J&K Sports Council (JKSC), under the auspicious of Volleyball Federation of India (VAFI) is all set to host the 48th Junior National Volleyball (boys and girls) Championship at MA Stadium Jammu, here from November 14.
Elaborate arrangements have been made to host 52 teams from 26 participating states and Union Territories from across the country. It was after a game of 14 years that J&K is going to host a National event in the discipline of Volleyball. The last such event took place in 2008. This was stated by Additional Director General of J&K Police Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh, who along with Secretary J&K Sports Council (JKSC), Nuzhat Gul and Patron-in-chief of VAJK, Raj Daluja addressing a press conference here on Saturday.
The participating teams represent Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, J&K, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, UT Ladakh, Telangana and Uttaranchal.
For the smooth conduct of mega event, different committees have been set up for this week-long event. The competition is being held on open courts with 40 matches on daily basis, including those late night games under flood lights. The event shall take place on league-cum-knockout basis starting from 9 am from November 14. Meanwhile, as per a handout issued here today, Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha has consented to declare open the championship. Important to mention here that in the 47th Junior National Volleyball Championship, which was held at Burdwan in West Bengal, Tamil-Nadu won the boys title while Karnataka and Haryana remained second and third respectively.
Similarly, in girls section, West Bengal won the title beating Tamil Nadu in the final. Third place went to Rajasthan.
