3 smugglers booked under PIT NDPS Act

Srinagar, May 21: Police today booked 3 notorious drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla and also destroyed poppy cultivation in various parts of the district.
The notorious drug peddlers namely Zubair Ahmad Pandith son of Mohammad Hayat, Javaid Rasool Mir son of Ghulam Rasool, both residents of Gantmulla Payeen and Azad Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Aziz Mir resident of Dardkote Uri have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.
“The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal Jammu,” police said.
Police said that many cases were registered against these drug smugglers and were involved in promoting the drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Sheeri, Uri and other areas of district Baramulla.
“Despite their involvement in many FIRs they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth.”
Meanwhile, a police party of Police Post Mirgund led by IC PP Mirgund along with the concerned Magistrate destroyed illegally cultivated poppy on approx. 1/2 Kanal of land at Alambal Pattan. Similarly, a police party of Police Station Sheeri led by SHO PS Sheeri along with the concerned Magistrate destroyed the illegally cultivated Poppy on approx. 1/2 Kanal of land at Fatehgarh Sheeri.
Police informed that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated.
