SKIMS appoints CO under Transgender Persons Protection Act

SRINAGAR, June 27: The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has taken a significant step towards combating discrimination against the transgender community by appointing a Complaint Officer (CO) under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
The step has been taken in response to a communication from the Health & Medical Education Department, directing SKIMS to take the necessary steps in this regard.
The appointment aims to address prejudices faced by transgender individuals at SKIMS Soura and SKIMS Medical College & Hospital Bemina.
As per the order issued Dr. Shahnawaz Hamid Khan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Hospital Administration at SKIMS Soura, has been designated as the Complaint Officer. This responsibility is an addition to his existing duties as mandated by Section 11 of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act-2019.
