El Salvador has introduced a $1,000 (0ver Rs 8,000) fee for passengers from Africa or India in an attempt to limit migration to the US via the country. The fee will be used to improve the nation’s main international airport. This comes as the US Customs and Border Patrol recorded a record 3.2 million migrants across the country in fiscal year 2023. Airlines will need to inform Salvadoran authorities daily of passengers from the affected countries.
