Nature’s heist: How floods destroy Rs 400-cr cash here

The Bank of Maharashtra’s currency vault in Sitabuldi, Nagpur was flooded during the recent 9/23 floods, causing several hundred crores of rupees in paper currency to be damaged. It took over 24 hours to pump out the water from the bank premises. The bank’s zonal manager did not confirm or deny the flooding of the vault, but video clips showed the floodwaters entering the currency chest. The RBI has dispatched an inspection team to replace the damaged notes and replenish the currency vault. The bank is also considering taking measures to prevent future flooding.
