Street play at Ghanta Ghar raises voter awareness

Srinagar, Apr 13: The District Election Office (DEO) Srinagar today held a Nukkad Natak (Street Play) at the historic clock tower in Lal Chowk to raise awareness about voting.
The event, attended by officials, also witnessed the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Bhat, and students from various schools.
“The focus is on voter participation during these events, which are being carried out in every Parliamentary constituency, emphasizing the importance of voting for democracy,” the DC said.
He added that these programs aim to engage those above 18, informing them about their right to vote to strengthen and invigorate democracy.
Officials stated that the DEO, through the Nodal Officer SVEEP, organized the event aiming mass voter awareness, especially among the first-timers.
A first-time voter, Zainab Zahoor from Govt Higher Secondary School, Amira Kadal emphasized the significance of such programs in encouraging citizens to actively participate in governance and elect representatives committed to the betterment of the people.
“We were enlightened about the importance of voting, especially for first-time voters. Such awareness programs are crucial; people should actively engage in them to understand the power of their vote,” she expressed.
Another first-time voter, Nimra Khan, highlighted how such events help youngsters understand their rights and the significance of voting.
“Many people are unaware of the importance of voting. These events provide them with valuable knowledge about their rights and the power of voting. It’s the first time such events are taking place, and we will go home and inform others about what we’ve learned,” she shared.
