JAMMU, May 29: Police today claimed to have charge-sheeted one person involved in illegal mining and cutting of the forest land at Chowadi area.
A police official said that one Tariq Hussain of Chatta, Sunjwan, Tehsil Bahu, district Jammu, who indulged in illegal cutting and mining on forest land in Chowadi (Chattha), has been charge-sheeted.
According to the police official, he was booked in case FIR number 53/2024 under Section 447 of the IPC and 26 of the Forest Act registered at Police Station Channi on the complaint of Range Forest Officer Bahu on May 22, 2024.
He said post registration of the FIR, it came to fore during the investigation that Tariq had no ownership or rights to the land in Forest Comptt number 08, Chowadi.
With criminal intent, the accused trespassed and initiated unauthorised cutting and mining activities, which were promptly detected by forest field staff, he said.
Despite being asked to produce relevant revenue records, he said, Hussain failed to justify his actions, confirming the illegal encroachment on forest property owned by the Forest Department.
The investigating officer of the case, incharge Police Post Chattha acted swiftly and produced the charge sheet in the case in the court of law today, he added.
