JAMMU, July 27: Pakistani authorities today handed over the body of a man who allegedly ended his life by jumping into the Chenab River, officials said.
The deceased, Harash Nagotra, was a resident of a border village in the Akhnoor sector and had been missing since June 11.
His motorcycle was discovered near the river, prompting his family to file a missing person report the following day.
Initial investigations indicated that Nagotra may have committed suicide after losing over Rs 80,000 in an online gaming app.
Around a month after he went missing, his family was alerted about his death through a WhatsApp message from a Pakistani official after they (family of deceased) reactivated his SIM card on July 13.
The message revealed that Nagotra’s body had been found in a canal in Sialkot, Punjab on June 13 and had since been buried.
Nagotra’s father, Subash Sharma, later approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister and LG Manoj Sinha for facilitating the return of his son’s body.
On receiving the body at Octroi Post near Suchetgarh today, he expressed his gratitude towards the Union Government, Army and the BSF.
It (body) will be now taken to a Government Hospital for a post-mortem before the last rites are performed on Sunday.
