JAMMU: In the wake of upcoming Legislative Assembly elections, the National Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths have intensified crackdown on drug peddlers and seized huge cache of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in two separate cases.
Four narco smugglers have been arrested so far in connection with these cases.
On a specific information, the NCB Jammu Zonal Unit recovered and seized 3,000 Alprazolam Tablets, 14,106 Spasmo Proxyvon Plus (Tramadol) Capsules, 221 Bottles of Codeine based Cough Syrup (100 ml each) and Approx 5 Litres of Codeine based Cough syrup in water bottles at Near Zamindara Dhaba, Ring Road, Samba from the possession of two accused persons, Mohd Abbas Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, resident of Noorpora, Pulwama and Zahoor Ahmad Shah, resident of Takeya, Ghulab Bagh, Pulwama, who were arrested day before in this connection.
“Today, the receiver of the seized drugs namely Sareed Ahmad Ganie, son of Abdul Rasheed Ganie, residen t of Anantnag has been arrested”, according to a statement.
On a specific information, on August 31, 2024, the NCB Jammu had seized 25 bottles of Codeine based Cough Syrup (100 ml each) and 5760 Spasmo Proxyvon (Tramadol) capsules at Lakhanpur. The seized drug was to be received by Asif Ishtiyaq, son of Ishtiyaq Ahmed, resident of Tantrypora, Srinagar, who has been also arrested by NCB Jammu on Tuesday.
A NCB spokesperson said, “The NCB has geared up its preparation to tackle the drug menace and its possible misuse in the election scenario. Being the national nodal agency for drug law enforcement, it has committed itself to stop the supply of drugs in the region.”
“NCB Jammu is keeping its commitment to check flow of drugs by conducting seizure operations, surprise checks, conducting financial investigation and seizing/freezing of illegally acquired properties and getting PITNDPS orders issued against the habitual offenders. Any tip against drug trafficking may be shared with NCB on its toll-free MANAS helpline at 1933,” said NCB spokesperson.
