Shah reaches Jammu on 3-day visit, meets top BJP leaders

JAMMU, Sept 20: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached here late this evening on a three-day visit to address a series of election rallies in the Jammu region while BJP national president JP Nadda will hold a road show and address two gathering here on September 22. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will also address a series of public meetings on September 22 and 25.

Shah reached here late this evening and met senior leaders including Union Minister GK Reddy and Ram Madhav, Incharge Elections, Tarun Chug, national general secretary, Ashish Sood co-Incharge J&K and Sat Sharma, working president.
He also met popular Dogri singers Romalo Ram and her daughter Saras Bharti. The Home Minister is reported to have discussed the BJP strategy for campaigning and other related issues with the senior BJP leaders.
The Home Minister will address five election rallies in Poonch, Rajouri and Jammu districts tomorrow including Mendhar, Rajouri, Surankote, Thannamandi and Akhnoor.
On September 22, he is scheduled to address the rallies at Nowshera and Majalta in Udhampur East constituency.
BJP UT chief Ravinder Raina is contesting from Nowshera, a seat he won in 2014, in Rajouri district. He is pitted against the same candidate Surinder Choudhary, a National Conference nominee who was in PDP in 2014.
The Home Minister will return to New Delhi in the evening of September 22.
This is third visit of Amit Shah in the Jammu region for campaigning during ongoing Assembly elections in the UT.
He visited here on September 6 and 7 when he released BJP’ election manifesto (Sankalp Patra) and addressed a workers meeting at Paloura in Jammu North Assembly constituency.
On September 16, Shah held three rallies at Paddar, Kishtwar and Chanderkote (Ramban) Assembly constituencies in the Doda region.
His rallies on September 21 and 22 will cover four districts of Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu and Udhampur.
Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi districts together accounting for 11 Assembly constituencies will go to polls in second phase on September 25. Campaigning will end in the evening of September 23.
Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur districts having 24 seats will vote in third and final phase on October 1.
BJP national president JP Nadda will be visiting Jammu on September 22 and will hold a road show in the City.
He will address gatherings and interact with prominent citizens at Barnai and Greater Kailash.
This will be Nadda’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir during the Assembly elections.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will also visit the region on September 22 and 25 and address elections rallies.
On September 22, Rajnath is expected to address election rallies at Poonch, Surankote and Jammu. He will address the rallies at Udhampur and other places on September 25 also.
The Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States will also visit the region to address the rallies.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already held three rallies in Jammu and Kashmir including Doda, Srinagar and Katra, he is also expected to address another rally at Jammu on September 28.
The rally to be held at MA Stadium will be joint for 20 candidates of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.
Campaigning for 24 Assembly constituencies of Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur districts will end in the evening of September 29. Last phase polling will be held on October 1.
Counting for all 90 Assembly seats will be held on October 8 and results are expected by the evening.
