Speaking to reporters at the NC headquarters in Srinagar, Abdullah recalled that Kashmiris chose not to join Pakistan in 1947. “If they think they can change anything with these attacks, they are only destroying themselves and us. Those who are orchestrating this must think deeply about the consequences. They know what to do,” he said.
Without naming Pakistan, Abdullah said that he has been witnessing such attacks since 1984 and that everyone knows who is behind them. “They are only harming Muslims. This must stop. If these actions continue, the day will come when war will erupt, and nothing will remain,” he warned.
Abdullah stressed that attacks in Kashmir are not a new occurrence. “Why are you saying these attacks are happening only now? Did they not happen in Jammu, Samba and Reasi? This has been going on for years,” he said.
The NC chief also emphasized that these attacks will not intimidate his party or the people of Kashmir. “The attacks will continue, but we are not afraid. We have fought before, and we will fight again. I have never been afraid. We will fight back and give them a befitting reply. We will sour their teeth-God willing. Do not be scared,” he said.
Abdullah added that if the attacks persist, those responsible must be ready for the consequences. “They would not be able to bear it anymore. Just look at what is happening in Ukraine, Syria, Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon-everything is being destroyed. Do they want the same destruction here? Do they want to make the poor even poorer? For God’s sake, stop this madness,” he said.
When asked about his son and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s absence from the Unified Command meeting, he said: “Look, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is the commander-in-chief at the moment. He has all the authority. Omar was not at the recent meeting because he was in Delhi, but it is wrong to say he was not invited. If any other meeting is called, he will certainly attend. After all, he is a Chief Minister,” he said.
Responding to questions about Engineer Rashid’s protest demanding the restoration of the Darbar Move-a biannual tradition of shifting the Government between Jammu and Srinagar-Abdullah dismissed the issue.
“He wants to move forward in life, but I do not know anything about it. They keep talking about the Darbar Move. Let the Assembly meet, and you will see what happens. Stop jumping to conclusions,” he said.
