RAMBAN, Nov 9: As per calendar of activities envisaged by the National Legal Services Authority, Legal Services Week was celebrated today by the District Legal Services Authority Ramban here under the guidance of its Chairman (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Deepak Sethi and the supervision of Secretary/Sub-Judge Priyanka Mahajan by organizing a legal awareness program in collaboration with District Bar Association Ramban.
Speaking at the event, Secretary DLSA Priyanka Mahajan said that the legal services institution is the most important institution in the Constitution of India as it is entrusted with the task of uplifting the weaker sections of the state and bringing change in the society. She encouraged the Panel lawyers and Para legal volunteers to understand the rights of the people and spread legal awareness among the weaker sections.
Surprise visits to various other institutions such as Women Special Cell, One Stop Centre, Ramban were also conducted by the Secretary, DLSA, where she examined the condition of the infrastructure, rooms and various other legal remedies and facilities provided to the public and especially aggrieved women.
The program was attended by all learned judicial officers from District Judiciary, Ramban, Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers, Staff of District Legal Services Authority & District Judiciary, Ramban.
Advocate S.S. Parihar, District Bar president Ramban briefly explained the role of Legal Services Authorities to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society and to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities.
Advocate Asif Itoo and Karanjeet Manhas thoroughly discussed the role of DLSA.
They also highlighted the importance of legal Literacy Clubs in educational institutions and their role in generating legal knowledge amongst the students.
The event ended with a vote of thanks presented by Chairman, DLSA, Deepak Sethi to the participants of the program.
