Two notorious criminals involved in firing incident arrested

JAMMU, Nov 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) today claimed they have arrested two notorious criminals, who allegedly fired at an individual at Nikki Tawi area here on the intervening nights of November 2-3, 2024.
Addressing media persons here, SP Jammu Rural, Brijesh Kumar Sharma said that on November 3, 2024, one Shaista, a resident of Gujjar Nagar, filed a complaint with Nowabad Police Station and stated therein that her son, Imran Khalil, had been shot by unidentified individuals with the intent to kill him on the intervening nights of November 2-3, 2024.
Imran, aged 25, who sustained severe injuries, is currently under treatment at Government Medical College Jammu.
The police officer said that acting on the complaint of the woman, a case FIR number 168/2024 under the relevant sections of the law was registered at Nowabad Police Station and an investigation was promptly initiated.
During the course of investigation, the SP Jammu Rural said, the police teams examined footage from around 100 CCTV cameras and quizzed around 20 suspects.
Later on November 10, he said that a police team set up a checkpoint near T-Chowk on the 4th Tawi Bridge.

Here (at checkpoint), he said, a black Creta car (JK02BX-3022) coming from Nikki Tawi area was stopped for checking.
During search of the vehicle, the police team found 18 grams of heroin-like-substance from the possession of the vehicle owners, said the SP Jammu Rural.
Accordingly, the suspects identified as Mohammad Hussain Khatana alias Raju from Kokernag now residing in Ragoora, Jammu, and Mohammad Ramzan from Ragoora, were detained, said the police officer, adding that a separate case under FIR number 174/2024 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered against the duo.
During questioning, the suspects admitted their involvement in the shooting, revealing that Khatana shot Imran Khalil due to a personal dispute with a local drug dealer, he said.
He said, accordingly, the police recovered a pistol and 16 live cartridges based on the suspects’ disclosure and seized the vehicles used in the crime.
According to the police, Ramzan has nine prior FIRs, including of bovine smuggling, attempt to murder, registered against him at different police stations in the province.
Pertinently, the arrests were made by SHO Nowabad, Inspector Deepak Pathania, with the assistance of PSI Darshan Singh and PSI Aziz Tariq.
