RAJOURI, Nov 16: A large number of e-rickshaw drivers in Rajouri took to the streets today, staging a peaceful protest to highlight their grievances and demand immediate action from the authorities.
The protest was led by Danish Mir and Ajaz Mirza. The drivers raised concerns over the growing number of e-rickshaws in the town, which they claim has led to oversaturation and a significant decline in their earnings.
The protesters urged the administration to impose restrictions on the issuance of permits for new e-rickshaws in Rajouri town. They stated that the current influx of such vehicles has created a chaotic situation, with many struggling to find passengers and sustain their livelihood.
The drivers also demanded that individuals holding PSP (Public Service Permit) licenses be allowed to drive e-rickshaws. They argued that such a move would ensure fairness and provide employment opportunities for PSP license holders, many of whom face challenges in finding other avenues of work.
Speaking during the protest, a representative of the drivers said, “The town is already flooded with e-rickshaws, which has drastically affected our income. Allowing PSP license holders to drive e-rickshaws would bring relief to many and ensure better regulation of this sector.”
The drivers called upon the district administration to address their concerns and devise a sustainable policy to regulate e-rickshaw operations in the town. They warned of intensified protests if their demands are not met promptly.
