BENGALURU, Nov 26: Renowned spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev on Tuesday strongly condemned the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, a Hindu monk who was protesting against the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh.
Sadhguru’s statement comes amid growing concerns about the treatment of religious minorities in the country, highlighting the alarming trend of persecution based on religion and demographic vulnerability.
In a sharp post on X (formerly Twitter), Sadhguru remarked, “Persecution on the basis of religion or weakness of demographics is not the way of democratic nations. It is disgraceful to see how a democratic nation is disintegrating to become theocratic and autocratic. It is the responsibility of every citizen to understand the value of having an open democracy.”
The arrest of Prabhu, who was peacefully protesting the violence and discrimination faced by Hindus, underscores the deteriorating state of religious freedom in Bangladesh. Sadhguru has long been an advocate for the safety and dignity of Bangladeshi Hindus, who have increasingly been subjected to targeted attacks, destruction of temples, and other forms of harassment.
Sadhguru called on Bangladesh’s citizens to take responsibility for restoring democratic values in their country, urging them to create a society where all people, regardless of their religion, can live with dignity and freedom.
“It should be the responsibility of every citizen of Bangladesh to build back a democratic nation where all citizens will have the needed rights and ability to fulfill their lives as per their requirements and belief,” he added.
Earlier, Sadhguru had tweeted about the ongoing atrocities against Hindus, stating, “The atrocities being perpetrated against Hindus is not just an internal matter of Bangladesh. Bharat cannot be Maha-Bharat if we do not stand up and act at the earliest to ensure the safety of minorities in our neighborhood. What was part of this Nation unfortunately became neighborhood, but it is our responsibility to protect these people – who actually belong to this Civilization – from these shocking atrocities.”
In another tweet, he warned against the rise of religious extremism in the region, urging the importance of preventing such ideologies from gaining influence: “Unfortunate realities of our neighbourhood. Let us ensure religious extremism never takes charge of our Beloved Bharat,” he said.
The escalating violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, marked by mob attacks, temple desecration, and widespread intimidation, continues to raise alarm. Sadhguru has repeatedly called for immediate action to address this humanitarian crisis and ensure the safety and dignity of religious minorities.
The arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu highlights the growing intolerance in Bangladesh and the urgent need for both local and international efforts to safeguard democratic principles and protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of their faith.
