SRINAGAR, Nov 27: With the arrival of migratory birds at Kashmir’s wetlands, the Wildlife Department’s wetland division today issued an advisory urging the public to refrain from venturing into these areas to ensure the safety of the avian visitors.
In a public notice, the department announced that migratory birds from various parts of the world have started arriving at Kashmir’s wetlands, where they will reside and move between during the winter months. “To ensure their safety and protection, the Department of Wildlife Protection is responsible for safeguarding these migratory birds,” a spokesperson of the department said.
The official highlighted concerns over individuals with ill intentions who might harm the birds or disturb their habitats. “To prevent such activities, no one shall be allowed to enter the wetlands without prior permission,” he stated.
He further clarified that bird watchers must obtain permission to access the wetlands. This process, he explained, allows the department to differentiate legitimate visitors from potential violators. “Anyone found entering the wetlands without permission will be deemed in violation of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and strict action will be taken against them under the Act,” he added.
The department emphasized that public cooperation is crucial in creating a safe environment for the migratory birds during their seasonal stay in Kashmir.
