LG Mishra discusses Amendment to University of Ladakh Act

LEH, Nov 29: To discuss the Amendment to the University of Ladakh Act, 2018, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) chaired a meeting, here today.
Commissioner/Secretary, Padma Angmo, apprised the LG of the University Council members’ suggestion to amend the University of Ladakh Act 2018 to make the University of Ladakh a state university with affiliated colleges in place of the existing set-up of a cluster university with constituent colleges.
She informed that the proposal would be sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs after the nod from the HLG.
The advantages of making the University of Ladakh a state university with affiliated colleges, the recruitment of staff along with reservation quota in recruitment, the applicability of domicile law and other issues were discussed in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the LG asked Secretary, GAD, Michael D’Souza, to check the applicability of domicile law for state universities of Goa and Karnataka along with a state university in Northeast India.
Among others who attended the meeting included Advisor to the LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner/ Secretary, Dr L Franklin, Vice-Chancellor, UoL, Prof SK Mehta, Secretary, Bhanu Prabha, Director, College Affairs, Dr Tashi Dawa, Principal, EJM College, Prof Sameena Iqbal and Legal Assistant, Higher Education, Disket.
