JAMMU: The 36th District Udhampur Boys & Girls Volleyball Championship was inaugurated on Saturday by Rayees Mohd Bhat, DIG Udhampur Reasi Range, at the Shaheed Inspector Kamal Singh Govt. Model Higher Secondary School Boys Udhampur.
The event, organized by the Volleyball Association of District Udhampur under the auspices of the Volleyball Association of J&K, and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, saw an enthusiastic crowd of sports lovers, officials, and citizens.
Nagpur Amod Ashok, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur, was the Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony. In his address, Ashok Padha, President of the Volleyball Association of Udhampur, welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of promoting sports activities in the district as a positive channel for the energy of youth.
Sunil Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the championship, also presented a brief overview of the event and the association’s activities, urging for greater support for sports in the region.
A total of 12 teams from various areas of Udhampur district participated in the championship. In his speech, Rayees Mohd Bhat congratulated the Volleyball Association for organizing the event and assured full support for all sports initiatives in the district.
Similarly, Nagpur Amod Ashok, SSP Udhampur, expressed his appreciation for the district association’s efforts and pledged assistance from the police to help promote sports activities.
The event was also attended by several prominent figures, including Manoj Kumar, SICON and Commandant of the 137 CRPF Bn, who was the Special Guest, Raj Guru, Vice President of the J&K Volleyball Association, Pradeep Chopra, former President of the Volleyball Association of District Udhampur, and Ashok Kumar, Volleyball Referee of the Volleyball Federation of India.
Girls: Women College defeated Barta Volleyball Club 2-0 (25-12, 25-14); Ramnagar Volleyball Club defeated Thial Volleyball Club 2-0 (25-11, 25-08).
Boys: UVC defeated Chirayi Volleyball Club 2-0 (25-21, 25-19).
The championship received strong support from the CRPF-BN, SIKS Govt. HSS Boys Udhampur, and the Department of Youth Services & Sports Udhampur.
The event proceedings were conducted by Amit Sharma, a National Volleyball Player, while Naveen Sharma, Sunil Khajuria, Deepak Sharma, and Rajesh Sharma officiated the matches.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Amit Chander Singh, General Secretary of the Volleyball Association of District Udhampur.
