JAMMU: SAI Jammu to meet Border Lions Pallanwala in boys final while Trikuta Senior will face off against Trikuta Junior in girls final of the 36th Jammu District Volleyball Championship, organized by the Jammu District Volleyball Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council and under the aegis of the Volleyball Association of J&K, here tomorrow at 1:00 PM onwards at MA Stadium, here.
Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Raj Singh Gouria, Commandant IRP 18th Bn Jammu at MA Stadium, here on Saturday.
The championship, taking place over two days, has drawn a total of 14 teams-10 in the boys’ section and four in the girls’ section-representing various far-flung areas of the district, including Pallanwala, Pargwal, Marh, RS Pura, Nagrota, and Jammu.
These teams are competing for the title, with the ultimate goal of securing a place in the upcoming 36th JKUT level championship, scheduled to be held in Jammu from December 13 to 15, 2024.
During his address, Raj Singh Gouria emphasized the importance of maintaining both physical and mental health by incorporating sports into daily life.
He also urged the players to steer clear of social evils, including drug addiction, and to focus on building a positive, healthy lifestyle through their involvement in sports.
H.S. Gill, Secretary of the Jammu District Volleyball Association, provided an overview of the championship’s significance, highlighting that the event would serve as a selection process for the Jammu district boys’ and girls’ teams for the forthcoming JKUT championship.
The event saw the attendance of several dignitaries, including Manmeet Singh, President of the Jammu District Volleyball Association, Kuldip Magotra, Chief Executive Officer of the Volleyball Association of J&K, RC Sharma, Treasurer, Rajiv Dogra, Senior Volleyball Coach, Prateek Kumar, SAI Coach, and Mulkhraj Sharma.
During the inaugural function, the Chief Guest was honored with a memento by the office bearers of the Jammu District Volleyball Association. The championship drew a large number of spectators, including enthusiastic volleyball fans, who were treated to an exciting day of competitive matches.
A panel of referees, including Anil Kumar, Mulkhraj, and Rasiq, officiated the matches, ensuring that the competition was conducted fairly and professionally.
The Results:
Boys: Pargwal defeated Stadium XI 2-0 (25-19, 25-21); Aghore defeated Nagrota 2-0 (25-19, 25-20); Border Lions Pallanwala defeated Aghore 2-0 (25-20, 25-21); SAI Jammu defeated Marh Warriors 2-0 (25-19, 28-26). Semifinals: SAI Jammu defeated Prayal 2-0 (25-17, 25-21) and Border Lions Pallanwala defeated Pargwal 2-0 (25-16, 25-22).
Girls: Trikuta Junior defeated APS Domana 2-0 (25-18, 25-17); Trikuta Senior defeated Army Children Club 2-0 (25-13, 25-14).
