Jammu, Dec 17: A massive fire has broken out in the forests of Uchhad in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials here on Tuesday said that a major fire engulfed around 2km of forest area and damaged a large quantity of trees.
As per officials, locals along with teams of the Forest Department, wildlife Department, Army, and police immediately launched fire controlling exercises.
“The fire could not be controlled till late at night as it spread over a large area,” they said adding that due to rainfall deficit, forest fire-like incidents are happening often.
“The blaze is under control and teams are on the job to completely douse the flames to prevent it from further spreading,” they said.
