AIRTWF delegation calls on Nitin Gadkari

JAMMU, Dec 18: A delegation of the office bearers of All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation (AIRTWF) called on Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi today and submitted him a charter of demands.
Led by K K Divakaran, working president of the Federation, the delegation projected the demands before the Minister which include, enacting Social Security Act for the unorganised road transport workers, withdraw the abnormal enhanced penalties in the MV Amendment Act 2019, develop an App alternate to Ola/Uber/ Rapid etc, strengthen and expand STUs with the directions that electric buses should be owned, operated and maintained by STUs.
With regard to social security for the an rorganised road transport workers, Gadkari responded positively and instructed his secretary to arrange a meeting with Director, National Labour Institute, V V Giri with the Federation leadership. Regarding heavy penalties in case of accidents, Gadkari said he was not against drivers but the aim was to reduce the accidents on the roads.
While referring to the alternative App to Uber/Ola etc, Gadkari said that the government may not do it. The minister suggested that it can be developed by any society.
With regard to the STUs and the electrical buses, the Union Minister said that the Government is committed to introduce “Transport on London model”.
The Federation leaders said that the AIRTWF shall watch the Government response on all the issues. If no proper response is felt within next 15 days, the Federation will chalk out next course of action in its next working committee meeting to be held at Vijayawada on January 9, 2025.
The delegation consisted of working president- KK Divakaran, vice president Sarbat Singh Puniya, general secretary R Lakshmaiah, Raj Kumar Jha and Jiban Saha- both secretaries.
