While speaking with reporters, SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani highlighted the significant progress Kupwara Police have made in their fight against the drug menace and narco-terror activities in the district throughout 2024.
“Last night’s operation, conducted jointly with the Army, was a successful one,” he said.

Furthermore, police reported that three residential properties have been attached under the UAPA in connection with terror-related activities.
“We are focusing on targeting those who support and facilitate terrorism,” they said.
As per officials, in the past three months, 20 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered in the district, raising the total number of cases registered in 2024 to 67.
“In these cases, 103 drug peddlers have been arrested, though some remain at large and are wanted,” the SSP said.
Kupwara Police’s sustained efforts have also led to significant seizures of contraband and proceeds of crime this year.

Speaking about the drug menace and its supply chain, the SSP emphasized the need for public involvement to eradicate the problem.
“People must cooperate with us so that we can bring this menace to an end. Public cooperation is essential in maintaining law and order and achieving the shared goal of a drug-free and terror-free society,” he said.
Regarding the conviction rate in such cases, the SSP stated that the police ensure they gather the necessary evidence to strengthen their cases.
