JAMMU, Dec 19: Priya Sethi, National Executive Member of BJP and former Minister, met with meritorious sportspersons today to address their concerns regarding the delayed implementation of the New Sports Policy (S.O 12) in Jammu and Kashmir. The policy, which was initiated in 2022, aims to provide better recognition, support and opportunities for athletes in the region.
Sethi expressed her deep concern over the delay in executing the policy, emphasizing that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, sports have received unprecedented attention and support, including the launch of the Khelo India initiative. She stated that Modi’s efforts have elevated India’s sports sector by offering improved infrastructure, funding and better opportunities for athletes.
The former Minister pointed out the struggles of meritorious athletes, many of whom have won medals at the Asian Games, World Championships, and other prestigious events. These athletes are now facing challenges in securing jobs due to the lack of policy implementation. Sethi urged the LG administration to take immediate action and prioritize the implementation of the sports policy, ensuring employment opportunities for these dedicated athletes.
She assured the athletes that their concerns would be raised with the Lieutenant Governor and relevant authorities, reaffirming BJP’s commitment to the welfare of sportspersons.
