JAMMU: National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former Minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, expressed confidence that the Omar Abdullah-led government would prioritize placing the untapped and unexplored tourist destinations of Jammu Division on the national tourism map.
This, he believed, would not only attract tourists from across the country but also boost the local economy and provide growth opportunities for the region’s youth.
Speaking at a public meeting in the picturesque Panchari, Sadhotra highlighted that Jammu Division holds immense tourism potential, which needs to be harnessed effectively for the region’s transformation.
Sadhotra emphasized the need to promote and develop Panchari as a tourism hub, particularly through Lander, which could generate economic benefits for the entire Jammu region. He noted the region’s rich potential in pilgrim, adventure, and nature tourism, and hoped these avenues would receive the attention they deserve.
Sadhotra also called for a comprehensive strategy to promote destinations like Bani-Basohli, Bhaderwah, Doda, Rajouri, and Poonch, known for their stunning landscapes, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism potential. These areas, he said, should be showcased through national and international tourism campaigns.
Recognizing that tourism development goes beyond attracting visitors, Sadhotra stressed the importance of creating local livelihoods, boosting businesses, and fostering socio-economic growth.
He called for investments in road infrastructure, eco-tourism projects, and hospitality facilities, with a focus on making Jammu a year-round tourist destination by leveraging its unique climate and cultural diversity.
He also highlighted the need for sustainability and community involvement to ensure the preservation of the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
Sadhotra assured the gathering that issues such as the development of the Panchari Tourism Circuit and the need for a Degree College in the region would be taken up with the relevant authorities.
Former Minister and Zonal President of National Conference, Abdul Gani Malik, also advocated for the development of the Panchari Tourism Circuit, noting its potential to benefit the Gool and Panchari region. Provincial Secretary Mohammad Ayub Malik emphasized that under Omar Abdullah’s leadership, there was renewed hope for progress and prosperity in the neglected areas.
MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Rajput, urged the government to expedite the completion of the Sewa Hydel Project for meeting power requirements and creating jobs.
In the meeting, several local issues were raised, including the demand for a Degree College due to the growing student population.
On the occasion, hundreds of youth joined National Conference, with Sadhotra congratulating and welcoming them, expressing hope that their joining would further strengthen the party and its leadership. Prominent party leaders, including Sunil Verma, Abdul Gani Teli, and Chander Mohan Sharma, were also present.
