JAMMU, Dec 21: Jammu athletes showcased remarkable performances at the Jaisalmer Border Ultra, the biggest ultra-marathon event in India with over 850 participants. In a historic achievement, Samvit Sharma emerged as the overall champion in the 100-mile category, setting a national record with a time of 16 hours, 10 minutes, and 45 seconds. His victory was a standout moment in the event, establishing Jammu’s presence on India’s ultra-running map.
Several first-time participants also made their mark. Vivek Magotra completed the 100-mile race in 19 hours, 39 minutes, and 57 seconds, while Ronit Verma finished in 26 hours, 41 minutes, and 31 seconds. Sahil Sharma, a second-time participant, improved his previous record by over 7 hours, completing 100 miles in 19 hours, 49 minutes, and 1 second.
In the 100-km category, Sahil Saini made an impressive debut with a finish time of 12 hours, 00 minutes, and 17 seconds. Satbir Singh registered a personal best in 12 hours, 37 minutes, and 12 seconds. Tina Sahi, the only female runner from Jammu in the 100-km category, set a new personal best of 14 hours, 32 minutes, and 20 seconds. Other participants in this category included Rajesh Koul (15 hours, 3 minutes, 27 seconds), Anshul Choudhary (15 hours, 31 minutes, 14 seconds), and Mukal Singh Manhas.
Prerna Sharma, the only female from Jammu in the 50-km category, completed her race in 7 hours, 13 minutes. These exceptional performances highlight Jammu as an emerging hub for ultra-distance running.
