JAMMU, Dec 21: The Powerlifting Association of J&K has submitted a memorandum to the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Satish Sharma and urged him to provide specialized equipment and infrastructure for Powerlifting at the Bhagwati Nagar Indoor Stadium in Jammu.
Rakesh Kumar, General Secretary of the Powerlifting Association of J&K, emphasized the urgent need for these facilities to support the region’s youth in their pursuit of excellence in Powerlifting. The proposal highlights the numerous benefits of such an initiative, especially in terms of physical and mental well-being, while providing a positive outlet for energy.
The association believes this could help address pressing issues like the growing problem of drug addiction among the youth. The memorandum advocates for a conducive environment for aspiring athletes to train and excel in powerlifting, which is gaining popularity in the region. The association has called for immediate action to equip the stadium with necessary resources, promoting the holistic development of young athletes and inspiring more to participate in sports.
The association also expressed appreciation for the Minister’s proactive role in UT’s sports development since taking office as Sports Minister.
