The protestors voiced strong dissent against the BJP-led Assam Government and its Chief Minister, accusing them of targeting opposition voices in a bid to silence dissent. The demonstration was led by Maan Singh Rathore, IYC Secretary Incharge J&K, along with JKPYC president Akash Bharat, and other senior members.
As a part of the protest, the members burned an effigy symbolizing their frustration and anger towards the BJP Government’s undemocratic actions. The protestors also criticized recent controversial remarks made by the Union Home Minister in Parliament regarding Dr. BR. Ambedkar, calling it an affront to the principles of democracy and equality that the architect of the Constitution stood for.
IYC Secretary Rathore addressing the protestors, said that the detention of IYC president Uday Chib is a blatant misuse of power by the BJP-led Government in Assam. This is not just an attack on an individual but an attack on democracy and the right to dissent. The BJP has consistently demonstrated its inability to tolerate criticism or alternative voices. Today, we are protesting to send a clear message that such attempts to stifle opposition will not be tolerated.
He further added that this is not the first time the BJP has used state machinery to target opposition leaders. The country is witnessing a systematic erosion of democratic values. What happened in Assam is reflective of a larger trend where dissent is criminalized, and the voice of the youth is being silenced. “We will continue to fight against such tyranny, no matter the cost, he stressed. We intend to intensify our agitation if such situation continues across the nation,” he added.
PYC chief Akash Bharat remarked that the BJP is resorting to political witch-hunts because they are scared of the rising voice of the youth under the leadership of IYC president Uday Chib. His detention in Assam is a cowardly move aimed at demoralizing the Youth Congress, but they fail to understand that such tactics only strengthen our resolve.
Anirudh Sawhney, PYC general secretary also spoke on the occasion. Senior leaders Rahul Tandon, Divyansh Verma, Sunny Parihar and other office bearers were also present on the occasion.
