JAMMU, Dec 22: Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar today celebrated Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan’s 135th birth anniversary at Mehr Chand Mahajan Park, Gandhi Nagar with solemnity and fervour.
Chief Patron of the Mahajan Sabha, Jugal Mahajan paid rich tribute to Justice Mehr Chand and described him as a great patriot with whose wisdom Jammu and Kashmir became part of India. He spoke about his simplicity and social reforms especially in Mahajan Biradari and said that he was against unnecessary extravaganza in marriages and this should be followed by all biradaries even now.
K B Jandial (Retd -IAS), while remembering Justice Mahajan, said that it was he as a member of Redcliff Boundary Commission for Punjab who ensured a road connectivity to Jammu through Gurdaspur without which accession of the State with India could not have been possible.
Ravi Rohmetra, columnist and social activist, spoke about the life history of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan and recalled his contributions in different capacities like member of Redcliff Boundary Commission on Punjab and Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He said Jammu and Kashmir in particular and Indian Nation as a whole cannot forget the services of Justice Mahajan.
Bhanu Mahajan, Vice President Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar and Acting Working President of Congress Party J&K Wing, also spoke on the occasion. She called for emulating values and principles of Justice, Nationalism, simplicity and social reforms which Justice Mahajan pursued through his life.
Vipin Gupta, President of Mahajan Sabha Channi, said that it was Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan who ensured a road connectivity to Jammu through Gurdaspur, without which accession of the State with India could not had been possible.
Earlier the other dignitaries garlanded the statue of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan and participated in the Havan. Those who were present, included Jagdish Vaid (President), Prem Gupta, Vipin Gupta (President Mahajan Sabha Channi), Dr R K Gupta, P C Gupta, Naresh Gupta, Raman Mahajan, Raj Pal, Bansi Lal Gupta, Romesh Gupta, Ravi Mahajan, Sanjay Saraf, Veena Mahajan and Varinder Jeet.
