JAMMU, Dec 23: In order to ease traffic congestions and ensure free movement of pedestrians on footpaths, an anti encroachment drive was conducted by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), here today.
The drive was conducted under the instructions of JMC Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav, in collaboration with traffic police in the areas like Channi Himmat, Narwal, Panama Chowk, Railway Road, Baggar Basti and Gandhi Nagar.
During the drive, the special squad of Jammu Municipal Corporation seized the material displayed by the shopkeepers in front of their shops and footpaths causing traffic congestions and free flow of pedestrians.
The team also lifted illegal rehries and removed unauthorized hoardings/flexes from these areas.
Further, Dr Devansh Yadav conducted a tour of Apsara Road, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu to took stock of area along with Sr Supdt of Police, Traffic, Jammu Faisel Qureshi.
During the tour he briefed the media that Apsara Road was constructed, upgraded with the aim to boost the business scenario of the area but due to parking of vehicles at left side of road created traffic chaos resulting into major traffic jams and problems to the visitors/customers.
He further added that one way sign boards have been installed by JMC to overcome traffic congestion on the Apsara road and in order to streamline the parking system and to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
The instructions were issued that no vehicle shall be parked on the left side of the Apsara Road from Gole Market towards Last Morh Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and vehicles shall be parked on the right side of the road, strictly within the yellow line.
Shopkeepers of Apsara road shall park their two wheelers on the road side area adjacent to Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and four wheelers at nearby parking space of J&K Housing Board.
Any violation will be acted upon under JMC Act, 2000.
