5 drug peddlers arrested from Ramban by PP

RAMBAN, Jan 4: Punjab Police (PP) has arrested five people from Ramban district, who were part of a 12-member cross-border drug and weapons smuggling cartel. Seven other persons were arrested from different parts of Punjab.

Sources said that five people including the kingpin of the cartel, Manjeet Singh alias Bhola of Jhanjoti in Ajnala, Punjab, Harshpreet Singh alias Harman alias Hamma of Village Thanda in Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, Lovepreet Singh alias Jashan, and Mandeep Singh alias Kaushal alias Joshi, all residents of village Fatehpur in Punjab, were hiding in Kashmir fearing their arrests.
As they moved back to Punjab from Kashmir in their Fortuner car, they were chased by a team of Punjab Police already tracking their activities, they said.
The team successfully arrested them from Ramsu area of the Ramban district with the help of Jammu and Kashmir Police, sources added.
After their arrests, the five accused along with seven of their accomplices have been booked under Sections 21(B), (C)/27-A and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar.
