SDS celebrates 194th birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule

JAMMU, Jan 4: The 194th birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule was celebrated by Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha (SDS) by garlanding her statue here today.
On this occasion, Purushottam Dadhichi, head of SDS, Jammu Kashmir Province, said that respected Savitribai Phule will always be remembered in our country India because she urged for women education, widow marriage in her life and devoted her life to end the evils like casteism and child marriage.
Savitribai Phule born on 3rd January 1831 in Naya Gaon, a small place in Satara district of Maharashtra, was married to Jyotiba Phule of Pune, when she was 9 years old.
Both husband and wife took up the responsibility of social work.
In 1848, Savitribai Phule started the first school for women in Pune and thus established about 18 schools.
In 1853, she established a reform home for women victims of rape. Unfortunately, her husband died in 1890, but she continued to work in social work.
In 1897, while serving the patients of plague, she dedicated herself to this nation forever.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 108th Mann Ki Baat, gave full respect to the respected Savitribai Phule and called upon the nation to always remember her so that the coming generations can follow the path shown by the respected Savitribai Phule and dedicate themselves to social service and social reform.
Among others who were present during the event included Sanjay Gupta, Vijay Kumar, Dilip Gupta and Shyam Lal.
