“Let us awaken our full potential. Let us lead extra-ordinary lives.”
~ By D.K.Pandita
Every year National Youth Day, is celebrated on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, on 12 January, the birthday of the spiritual leader of modern India, Swami Vivekananda. In 1984, the Government of India declared this day as National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.
The celebration of National Youth Day is not merely a commemoration; it embodies a dynamic platform for youth to explore their potential. Educational institutions play a crucial role by organizing events that delve into Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy. These initiatives encourage students to internalize his teachings and apply them in their lives. As we celebrate National Youth Day each year, it is crucial to recognize that Swami Vivekananda envisioned youth not just as future leaders but as active participants in shaping society today.
“Education should focus on the human mind and help people develop their character and stand on their own,” has been the cornerstone of development of Vivekananda Institute of Values (VIVA). The objective of Awakened Citizens Program (ACP) is to enable students to discover their infinite potential through the conscious adoption of values. The need for ACP comes from the vision of having a nation filled with ‘Awakened Citizens’ who are awake to their infinite potential and their expanded role in the world around them. The program has been designed to help students to recognize their infinite human possibilities, so that they develop their universal and unique possibilities. To awaken them to the roles, responsibilities, contributions, and engagements with self, family, friends, and society as awakened citizens. The foundation of this Awakened Citizens Program is Atmashraddha (Self Belief) and how one can strengthen it. With a strong sense of SELF BELIEF, various possibilities open up in the lives of the students. Our role along with designated teachers is to create a conducive environment for peer to peer learning, and personal discovery of these inner possibilities. Through the Awakening Practices well integrated into the program, wide range of inner possibilities of the students can shine forth.
The one who has the power to transmit Atmashraddha (Self Belief) into young minds is called a Guru. Do not look on the faults of others. You cannot judge a human being by his faults. (Example: Suppose we were to judge of an apple tree by the rotten, unripe, unformed apples we find on the ground. Even so do the faults of a man not show what the man’s character is) Remember, the wicked are always the same all over the world. The thief and the murderer are the same in Asia and Europe and America. They form a nation by themselves. It is only in the good and the pure and the strong that you find variety. Do not recognize wickedness in others. Wickedness is ignorance and w
