JAMMU, Jan 13: A minibus conductor was brutally murdered by a group of people in Bishnah area here, officials said.
Ajay Kumar (17) alias Makodu of Bhatyari, Bishnah, was attacked by a group of people with sharp weapons around 11:45 pm last night at Bishnah while he was sitting in his vehicle with the driver and other people, resulting into severe injuries to the youth, they said.
He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, officials said.
Taking cognizance of the matter, police have detained around 6 suspects and registered a case FIR number 4/2025 under sections 103, 191, 192 BNS and 4/25 Arms Act at Police Station Bishnah, with further investigation set into motion. Several teams have also been constituted to arrest the accused.
Sources said that the incident stemmed from an altercation near a wine shop between two groups known to each other.
They said as the threats escalated, one group chased and attacked the other inside a matador. Click here to watch video
In the gruesome attack, they said, Ajay Kumar was severely injured by the assailants.
He succumbed during treatment at the hospital, they said.
Meanwhile, on Monday morning, the victim’s family, including women, children, staged a protest at Bishnah road, demanding the death penalty for the accused.
They also attempted to enter a detained suspect’s house but were stopped by the police.
The protest disrupted traffic for hours until local MLA Dr Rajeev Bhagat and senior police officers arrived at the scene and assured action against the assailants.
They also assured an impartial probe into the matter to bring the perpetrators to justice.
