DEHRADUN, Jan 20: As the 38th edition of the National Games approaches, Uttarak-hand is gearing up for a grand sports event with the deployment of 1,200 specialized sports volunteers. These volunteers, provided by the National Federation Sports of India (NFSI), will support various sports-related operations during the games, which are set to begin on January 28. In addition, Uttarakhand is in the process of selecting approximately 2,300 general volunteers to manage other logistical aspects of the event.
The specialized volunteers, who possess experience in national and international competitions, will be stationed at key locations and tasked with responsibilities directly related to sports management, such as assisting in event coordination, supporting athletes, and handling technical tasks. They will receive a daily honorarium of Rs 1000 for their services. In contrast, the general volunteers will focus on logistical duties like transportation, parking and crowd management, and will be compensated with a daily honorarium of Rs 500.
The selection of the general volunteers is underway, with over 30,000 individuals having registered for the opportunity. All registered candidates have undergone an online training program and completed an online examination. The recruitment of general volunteers will be based on the results of these examinations. Both specialized and general volunteers will undergo further training in etiquette and behavior to ensure they are well-prepared for their roles.
Prashant Arya, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the National Games Secretariat, highlighted the crucial role of both categories of volunteers in making the event a success. He emphasized that the combined efforts of specialized and general volunteers would help manage the extensive logistics and support sports activities during the games.
Uttarakhand is fully prepared to host the 38th National Games. It is a matter of pride that people from all sections of society are ready to contribute to the event. This grand celebration of sports is expected to significantly boost sports development in the state,” said Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand Chief Minister.
