JAMMU: Two Jammu and Kashmir residents are among 139 Padma Awardees, whose names were announced on Saturday after the approval from the President of India on the occasion of Republic Day 2025.
According to Ministry of Home Affairs, Lalit Kumar Mangotra and Farooq Ahmed Mir from Jammu and Kashmir have been conferred with the Padma Shri Awards this year. Lalit Kumar Mangotra has been conferred with Padam Shri award for the year 2025 in the field of Literature and Education. Farooq Ahmad Mir from Jammu and Kashmir has been awarded Padam Shri in the field of art.
Lalit Kumar Mangotra has been honored in the field of Literature and Education for his remarkable work in the realm of education and literary contributions. His efforts to improve educational standards and promote literary excellence in the region have made a significant impact. Farooq Ahmad Mir, a renowned figure in the field of Art, has been recognized for his exceptional contributions to the preservation and promotion of Kashmir’s rich artistic heritage. His dedication to the craft has earned him widespread acclaim, both regionally and nationally. Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines / fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. These Awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March / April every year. For the year 2025, the President has approved conferment of 139 Padma Awards including 1 duo case.
