Prof (Dr) Ravi Jayee brings another laurel to J&K, bags prestigious Int’l award

NEW DELHI: Dr. Ravi Jayee, an esteemed expert in Environment, Disaster Management, Sustainable Development, and Peace Building, has been honored with the prestigious World Peace-building and Promotion Award for his remarkable contributions to peace education, peace science, and sustainable development. The award was presented to him at the 20th World Peace Congress held at the India International Centre in New Delhi, organized by the International Association of Educators for World Peace (IAEWP), a UN-affiliated organization.

The award recognizes Dr. Jayee’s profound impact on peace education, his groundbreaking work in disaster management, and his innovative contributions to peace-building and peace engineering. His nomination stood out among a panel of distinguished nominees, chosen by intellectuals and experts of international repute. The felicitation was presented by Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmit Singh, Governor of Uttarakhand, highlighting Dr. Jayee’s extraordinary work on the global stage.Dr. Jayee, a native of Jammu, is the Chairman of the Afro Euroasian Chamber of Commerce, Education Development, and Empowerment (ACCEDE) and the Vice President (Inproto Vice Chancellor) of the International University-School of Medicine (IUSOM), USA, headquartered in New Delhi. Over the years, he has made significant contributions to various fields, including ecology, environmental protection, disaster management, and sustainable development.One of Dr. Jayee’s most notable accomplishments includes his instrumental role during the 2014 Srinagar flash floods, where his expertise was sought by disaster management agencies. Baseer Ahmed Khan, the then Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, acknowledged Dr. Jayee’s expertise by inviting him to deliver lectures to Deputy Commissioners and other stakeholders in the region. Dr. Jayee’s efforts were instrumental in shaping disaster management strategies across Kashmir, Leh, and Kargil between 2018 and 2019.In addition to his work on the ground, Dr. Jayee authored the 12-volume International Encyclopaedia of Disaster Management, which was released by the then Union Minister for Human Resource Development on March 17, 2018. The comprehensive collection of 5401 pages covers a wide range of disaster-related topics, including impacts on national development and strategies for advanced preparedness. This encyclopedia serves as a critical resource for governments and non-governmental organizations in disaster response and management.Dr. Jayee’s expertise spans numerous areas, including ecology, environmental education, pollution control, global environmental issues, and water-related disasters. His work also emphasizes capacity building for disaster management, offering technical solutions for the effective management of natural and man-made disasters. His paper on “Advance Preparedness for Managing Earthquake Risks,” presented at a national workshop organized by the Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India, became a guiding framework for disaster management professionals across the country.Despite personal tragedies, such as the declining health of his wife, Prof. Usha Jayee, who supported his efforts during the compilation of the encyclopedia, Dr. Jayee has remained committed to his work. He has focused on creating innovative solutions to mitigate the devastating effects of natural disasters. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for advance earthquake warning systems, Dr. Jayee and his team have developed a portable instrument for early earthquake detection. This system, which can be installed in police control rooms, will alert authorities about impending earthquakes, enabling timely evacuation and reducing casualties and economic loss. The system represents a pioneering achievement in India’s disaster management landscape.Dr. Jayee’s ongoing research into both natural and man-made disasters aims to offer comprehensive strategies for disaster preparedness, mitigation, and response. His work has not only earned him national and international recognition but also solidified his place as a global leader in disaster management and peace-building initiatives.Dr. Ravi Jayee’s vast body of work, ranging from peace education to disaster risk reduction, continues to inspire both professionals and policymakers.
