JAMMU, Feb 3: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha (DBPS), Parade (Jammu) paid rich tributes to the first Param Vir Chakra recipient, Major Som Nath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending Srinagar Airport from the attack of Tribals and Pak Army on November 3, 1947.
On 102nd birth anniversary of Major Som Nath Sharma, DBPS president Ved Parkash Sharma, DIG JKS Range Shiv Kumar Sharma and others paid floral tribute to Martyr Major Sharma at a function in Sabha premises wherein the speakers recalled supreme sacrifice of the great soldier.
They particularly mentioned that after the martyrdom of Major Sharma, almost his entire family joined Indian Army thereby setting an example that sacrificing life by one member from the family couldn’t demoralize others.
Senior BJP leader, Chander Mohan Sharma, Retired Brigadier Rakesh Khajuria and others also spoke on the occasion and demanded naming an airport in J&K after Major Sharma.
DBPS Chairman Advocate P C Sharma, NMC president Subash Shastri, senior bureaucrats, B D Sharma, Soujany Sharma (former DC Samba), B S Jamwal, Pt Barita Ram Sharma, Shiv Ram Sharma, Sunil Sharma, Jagdish Dogra, Virendar Mohan Magotra, Satyanand Sharma, Jagan Nath Sharma, Nanak Chand Sharma, Vijay Sharma, Atul Pangotra, M L Sharma, Ramesh Sharma, M L Padha, Gurdas Sharma, S S Baru, Prem Balotra, Rajesh Badgotra, Ritiz Khajuria, Devinder Sharma (Baboo), K L Sharma, Satpal Sharma and Arun Sharma also paid tributes to Major Sharma and appealed to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to declare holiday on the eve of Major Som Nath Sharma’s birth anniversary.
