JAMMU, Feb 3: The five accused in the gangster Sumit Jandial alias Gataru murder case reached Jammu today after they were arrested in a joint operation by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) from the ISBT Terminal in Kashmere Gate area yesterday.
Tomorrow, on February 4th, they will be presented before the court here, where police will likely seek their custody for further investigation into the matter.
Five people, including the main accused, Harsh Singh, Abhay Partap Singh alias Mui, Arun Singh, Ajay, and Raj, were arrested by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch and Jammu and Kashmir Police from ISBT Terminal on February 5, where they were hiding after committing the crime and were planning to further flee to Nepal.
“The accused, currently on transit custody, will be presented before court tomorrow,” a police official said.
Meanwhile, family members of two of the accused, Ajay and Raj, who allegedly aided the key accused, claimed that they were not involved in the crime and they were being framed by the police.
Sister of Ajay claimed that the latter, who runs a mobile repairing shop, helped one of the key accused and her another brother, Arun, only when he (Arun) sought money from his elder brother Ajay to hide somewhere, fearing he could be killed in an encounter by the police.
The family sought a thorough investigation into the matter.
