MOSCOW, Feb 6: At least 40,000 US Government employees have agreed to resign with an eight-month severance package, the CNN broadcaster reported on Thursday, citing a government official familiar with the matter.
In late January, the NBC News broadcaster reported that US President Donald Trump’s administration offered an eight-month severance package to government employees who agree to resign voluntarily. Up to 10% of US officials were reportedly expected to accept the offer, saving the government billions of dollars.
In total, some 2 million civil servants in the US have received the offer, the broadcaster said.
The number of people who are willing to resign under the conditions “is growing, and OPM [Office of Personnel Management] doesn’t plan to release deferred resignation numbers until after the deadline,” a Trump administration official told the broadcaster.
Earlier in the week, media reported that over 20,000 civil servants accepted the offer. (UNI)
