SRINAGAR, Feb 6: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested Mohammad Ashraf Malik, a Computer Operator at the Rural Development Department (RDD), Block Gund, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000.
According to an official statement, the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Malik, who was handling MIS operations, demanded Rs 10,000 for uploading documents required to release pending payments under the MGNREGA scheme. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, negotiated the amount to Rs 3,000 as the first installment and approached the ACB for action.
Following a pre-trap verification that confirmed the demand for a bribe, the ACB registered FIR Number 03/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the ACB police station in Srinagar. A trap team was formed, and during the operation, Malik was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
After completing legal formalities, the accused was taken into custody. Officials confirmed that further investigations are underway.
