LEH, Feb 6: Liyaqat Ali, the owner of Easy Lock Tiles in Chuchot Shamma, met with the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the LG’s Secretariat today.
During the meeting, Liyaqat shared his struggles with the LG, including the challenges his family faced after the death of his mother, Razia Bano, who had operated an MSME manufacturing unit under the PM Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
Liyaqat explained that his mother had secured a Rs 19 lakh loan from the District Industries Centre (DIC) to run the unit, but after the Covid-19 pandemic, the family had to sell land to repay the loan.
He further told the LG that the situation worsened with his mother’s untimely demise, as the unit was registered under her name, leading to financial complications.
Liyaqat also mentioned that he had faced difficulties in transferring the proprietorship of the unit to his name and was denied a loan for expansion despite repaying the loan on time.
He requested the LG’s help in securing a loan for expanding the business in his name under the PMEGP scheme.
After hearing his concerns, the LG directed Director of Industries and Commerce, Sheikh Nazir, to assist Liyaqat in completing the necessary paperwork for the loan and resolve the issue quickly.
In a separate meeting, entrepreneur Tashi Namgyal, a leading startup promoter in Ladakh, also met the LG.
Tashi, who employs around 150 youth, discussed his various initiatives, including his involvement in the Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning (SEEL) program and the establishment of the International Institute for Culture and Ethics in Ladakh.
Tashi requested the LG’s support in securing 20 kanal of industrial land at Phyang to set up his unit.
He also highlighted the need for uninterrupted power supply, accessible roads, water, and waste management services, as he is currently operating from private land without these basic facilities.
The LG instructed Sheikh Nazir to inspect Tashi’s current site and submit a report, aiming to improve infrastructure and support startups in Ladakh.
