Sir,
Ghatti has developed into an industrial area! It’s been a major transformation from a small village to a hub of industries. However, it is indeed unfortunate that local ownership and employment opportunities for the people of Kathua are limited. Unfortunately, all are owned by outsiders and run by outsiders .
It pains me to witness the one-sided development taking place in Ghatti and Kathua, where industries are flourishing, but the local Dogra community remains deprived of its benefits. While large industrial setups might appear to be a sign of progress, they seem to serve only external interests, leaving the native population without jobs, resources, or a voice in decision-making.
This reminds me of the East India Company, which came to India for trade in 1600 but eventually seized control of our land and wealth. History appears to be repeating itself, with industries exploiting our natural resources while the people of Kathua watch helplessly.
The Dogras have always been known for humility, courage, and service in the armed forces-we are not driven by greed but by a deep love for our land and heritage. However, illegal mining, industrial pollution, and unchecked expansion are threatening our environment, culture, and future generations. If this continues, a time may come when the Dogras will have to fight again-not against invaders, but against the corporate and political nexus that is eroding our identity.
My heartfelt appeal to political leaders, media, and the authorities is to step forward and protect our Dogra legacy. We do not oppose development, but we reject progress that comes at the cost of our natural resources, cultural heritage, and people’s well-being. Development must empower locals, not displace them.
We, Dogras, are humble and deeply connected to our roots. Our ancestors have served in the army with pride, and unlike businessmen, we do not see everything through the lens of profit. What we seek is sustainable development that does not come at the cost of our environment and cultural heritage. I sincerely urge the media, political leaders, and concerned authorities to rise above personal interests and work towards protecting the Dogra identity.
We do not reject development, but we refuse to accept it at the cost of our natural resources, traditions, and future generations.
