JAMMU, Feb 11: The Jammu GRP has constituted special squads for keeping close vigil in the trains and the platforms to fight against the drug peddlers and to tighten the noose against the criminals.
Divulging details on the initiatives being undertaken in this regard, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu GRP, Shailender Singh said, “we have special teams working round the clock not only on the platforms but also inside the trains with a motive to catch the criminals with a particular focus on drug peddlers.”
The teams in civvies are active in almost all the trains operating through the Jammu Tawi Railway Station,” adding, “we have also conducted successful operations in the recent past and recovered large quantities of narcotics besides weapons.”
“In all means, the safety of passengers is our key motto vis-a-vis fighting against drug abuse to save the future of our youth,” Singh expressed.
Sharing further he revealed that in 2024-25, as many as 14 NDPS cases were registered and narcotics worth crores were recovered.
He said that moreover, 12 absconders pending warrants under section 512 CrPC were arrested and 14 accused persons wanted in different criminal cases were also taken into custody out of which, four were sent to the Joint Interrogation Centre while one pistol was also seized in the said period.
The Jammu GRP Chief stated that four accused persons from outside J&K were also apprehended for their involvement in the heinous crimes, adding, “Our teams are maintaining a high degree of surveillance in the trains, and action on specific inputs have also resulted in the big catches.”
“Jammu GRP is committed to giving a crime-free society for which, we have a well-knitted strategy in place to ease and make travel crime-free for the passengers visiting Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
